El Salvador is a country that has signed several free trade agreements (FTAs) with other nations and trading blocs in recent years. Some of the most important free trade agreements in El Salvador are:
Member countries – Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR)
Free Trade Agreement between Central America and the United States (CAFTA-DR)
This trade agreement was signed in 2004 between the Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic) and the United States. The treaty removes tariff and non-tariff barriers for most goods and services between the parties.
Association Agreement with the European Union (EU)
This treaty was signed in 2012 between El Salvador and other Central American countries, and the EU. The agreement establishes a framework for economic and trade cooperation between the parties, and also includes provisions on human rights, the environment, and sustainable development.
Free Trade Agreement with Mexico
This agreement was signed in 2011 and entered into force in 2012. The treaty eliminates tariffs for 100% of products between Mexico and El Salvador, and also includes provisions on intellectual property, services, and government purchases.
Partial Scope Agreement with Chile
This agreement was signed in 2009 and entered into force in 2010. The treaty eliminates tariffs for a wide range of products between Chile and El Salvador, and also includes provisions on services, intellectual property, and cooperation.
